Maybe you’ve seen these little pink shampoo bottles on the internet or at Target, and if you have you’ll understand why I wanted to do a Monday Shampoo review. I’m a sucker for cute packaging (and I hope millennial pink never dies). The cruelty-free claims and 100% recyclable bottles didn’t hurt either, but I was curious if the Monday shampoo could convince me to use a drugstore shampoo long-term.

Monday has 4 different shampoos and conditioners for different hair types and concerns. They have a smooth shampoo (best suited for frizzy and curly hair), a moisture shampoo (for dry and “stressed” hair), a volume shampoo (for fine or oily hair), and a gentle shampoo which is for sensitive scalps (and is also the only one without fragrance.) They are currently only a shampoo and conditioner shop with a focus on sustainability, salon-worthy formulations with an inexpensive price tag, and being cruelty-free and vegan. 

I’ll go over some of the details of the Monday Shampoo and Conditioner as well as my experience and whether I recommend it.

Monday Shampoo and Conditioner Details

I thought it was interesting that Monday doesn’t have a shampoo and conditioner for hair that is not curly or dry or oily or sensitive (what’s the options for so-called normals?) Since I normally go for either a regular shampoo or one for fine hair, I went for the Volume Shampoo and Conditioner. 

It’s supposed to add body to lifeless hair, and while my hair isn’t lifeless exactly, I could always use more volume.

Monday Shampoo Ingredients

The Monday Volume Shampoo and Conditioner claims to give a deep clean and light hydration. The key ingredients are ginger root extract to stimulate the scalp and panthenol which is a common moisturizing ingredient in hair products.

Looking at the ingredient list, it also has coconut oil for hydration and citric acid which brings the pH levels to reduce frizz.

The shampoo and conditioner are cruelty-free, vegan, paraben-free, and SLS-free.

How to Use the Monday Shampoo

I used this every other day when I washed my hair. Lather and rinse!

Scent

All of the Monday shampoos and conditioners (except for the gentle shampoo and conditioner) have the same light gardenia scent. It’s a nice vaguely floral scent that isn’t too light but is also not too overpowering. I could smell it pretty strongly when pumping it out of the bottle, although I’ve definitely have stronger fragrances in my shampoo before. When putting it in my hair I could still smell it very well, but after it was rinsed out there was very little trace of any fragrance lingering.

Packaging

The packaging is super cute and I love that they have an “S” and a “C” on top of the pumps for each so you can easily tell from above which is the shampoo and which is the conditioner. 

I have a little grip with the pumps though which dispense only a little product with each pump. I have to use 5-6 pumps to have enough for my head (although this will matter less if you have short hair!)

Is the Monday Shampoo Packaging Recyclable?

The shampoo and conditioner packaging is 100% recyclable.

Lather and Conditioning

The shampoo worked into a nice lather but didn’t leave me feeling super clean like I typically prefer to feel. 

I also had to use more conditioner that I normally would have. I used a normal amount (about 2 tablespoons since I have long hair) and left it to sit on my mid-lengths and ends for a few minutes. After I washed it out my hair didn’t feel as soft and smooth as I wanted it to be so I added another tablespoon and let that sit for another few minutes.

In general, I felt I used more of the product than I normally would for other shampoo and conditioner sets I have.

How the Monday Shampoo Worked for me

Overall I thought this shampoo and conditioner set was ok for the price, but I’ve tried other sets that gave me a better clean and with less product. 

Pros

• Nice floral scent that wasn’t overpowering.
• The cute packaging.
• I love that it has pump dispenser.
• The affordable price.

Cons

• I had to use more product than normal to get the results I was expecting.
• No shampoo in their range for normal scalps or wavy/medium hair.
• The pump didn’t dispense very much product at once.

Who Should Buy Monday Shampoo

The Monday Volume Shampoo and Conditioner set is good for anyone looking for a moderate cleanse at an affordable price who doesn’t likes floral scents and pink packaging. In terms of a good shampoo experience and results for the price, I’d prefer the Native Shampoo as well as the Native Conditioner. That being said, it’s a decent shampoo and conditioner set, especially if pink bottles and cruelty-free, vegan haircare scratches your itch!

Monday Shampoo Conclusion

The Monday Shampoo and Conditioner set for Volume was just ok with me. I probably won’t buy again because I have tried a lot of shampoos that give me a deeper clean and a stronger lather. I also have tried stronger conditioners that soften my hair without weighing it down. It has cute packaging and a nice floral scent though and is a really affordable price.
